By using this data, suppliers and other eligible parties can make more informed decisions about pricing, prepare more accurate quotes and improve their forecasts. This means less reliance on estimates and assumptions, helping market participants make better use of the opportunities created by MHHS.
Better access to consumption data can also support more useful conversations with consumers and help them find deals that better suit their needs.
What is Annual Consumption?
Annual Consumption is an estimate of how much electricity a Metering Point is expected to use over a year. For Metering Points that have moved to MHHS, the value is calculated by Elexon’s Central Settlement Service using half-hourly electricity consumption data. It is updated monthly to keep the information as up to date as possible.
This gives eligible users a clearer picture of expected electricity use, helping them when preparing quotes and setting prices. As more half-hourly consumption data becomes available, the estimate is expected to become more representative of actual electricity use over time. You can find more information about how Annual Consumption is calculated in BSCP703: SVAA Core Services and ISD Manager Services – Elexon Digital BSC.
Understanding the data
Each Annual Consumption value includes a Quality Indicator. This shows how much actual consumption data was used to calculate the value, helping users understand how much information the estimate is based on.
The information available depends on how you access EES:
- EES API: Shows the latest Annual Consumption value.
- EES Portal: Shows the latest value and up to 12 months of historical values.
This means users can either access the latest value through the API or view how the value has changed over time in the Portal.
How to access Annual Consumption data
Annual Consumption data is automatically available to parties that have agreed access to it under the Electricity Data Access Matrix. The Electricity Data Access Matrix explains which parties can access the data.
If you would like to find out more about accessing Annual Consumption data, please contact the REC Code Manager.
