Our response to: Ofgem’s consultation on Market Stabilisation Charge activation

On 29 October 2026, we responded to Ofgem’s consultation on activating the Market Stabilisation Charge (MSC).

Our response recognises the need to protect market stability while highlighting concerns about the MSC’s impact on competition, switching, and consumer choice. We recommend at least five working days’ notice before activation and keeping the scheme in place only while exceptional market risks justify it. We also outline our preparations to administer the scheme should Ofgem decide to activate it.
