Design Consultation announced for the Consumer Consent Solution

The Consumer Consent Solution Design Consultation opens on 11 February 2026 for six weeks. This is your early heads-up so you can plan to get involved as soon as we publish the consultation pack and response details.

What’s coming: Consumer Consent Solution Design Consultation

The Retail Energy Code Company, acting on Ofgem’s direction, will shortly launch a consultation on the proposed design of the Consumer Consent Solution – a new, central approach to how consumers give, manage, and withdraw consent for energy data sharing.

Today, consent processes across the energy sector can be inconsistent and confusing. The Consumer Consent Solution is being designed to give consumers clearer control and visibility over their data, while providing the market with a trusted, standardised, and GDPR-aligned consent framework.

At the heart of the proposed solution is a single, secure interface where consumers can see who has access to their data, understand what they have agreed to, and change their preferences easily. The solution is also being designed to support non-digital journeys and accessibility needs, ensuring it works for everyone.

What the consultation will cover

The upcoming consultation will set out our proposed approach for delivering the Minimum Marketable Product for the Consumer Consent Solution, including the key technical, governance, and user-experience principles that will underpin a secure and scalable solution.

Have your say

The consultation opens on 11 February 2026 and will run for six weeks. We welcome views from consumers, consumer organisations, market participants, service partners, and technical experts. Details on how to take part will be published shortly.

Why this matters

The Consumer Consent Solution is about engaging people and increasing trust in the energy sector, so they feel they can safely share their energy data. It’s also about making it easier for companies to access the data securely so they can create new services for people.
