How can we effectively govern non-domestic brokers?

We’re hosting two workshops on the 21st and 22nd of March 2023 for non-domestic Suppliers and Brokers to share their views. We’ll discuss options to strengthen the market and protect consumer interests, such as implementing a code of conduct.

We want to develop the Retail Energy Code to protect consumer interests, regardless of which market participant they may deal with. Previously, we indicated to Ofgem that we consider it appropriate for any Third-Party Intermediary conduct rules to be set out in an industry-wide code that can be enforced impartially and effectively. Since then, Ofgem have implemented welcomed changes to the Supplier licence and is undertaking a further review. We want to understand if these changes have addressed the issues and risks in the non-domestic market.

We want to  determine what steps RECCo could take to address issues, reduce the administrative and regulatory burden upon suppliers and Brokers, and strengthen positive outcomes for consumers.

It’s important that we have the perspective of both the Supplier and Broker communities. These workshops will help us ensure we have considered the issues and challenges they face and inform our next steps
